Privacy Policy

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the Namly mobile app and the Namly website. Gilliy publishes and operates Namly. Features and data practices can vary by platform and app version.

2. Information you provide

• Profile name: Namly asks for a first name and may accept a last name. The app stores this profile information on your device. If the first name is not already in Namly’s catalog and meets submission checks, the app may send that name to Gilliy as a proposed catalog entry.
• Name contributions: If you submit or edit a name, Namly may receive the name, meaning, gender association, origin, platform, submission source and submission date.
• Feedback: If you contact us, we receive the information you choose to send. The app can prepare an email containing its version, your device model and operating-system version; you can review the email before sending it.

3. App activity and technical information

Namly stores bookmarks, skipped-name history, filters, pronunciation preferences, theme settings and related app choices on your device. A bookmarked name’s catalog identifier may be sent to Gilliy’s backend to help calculate aggregate trending information.

The Android app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to measure app use. Namly may record fixed product events such as screen visits, onboarding results, successful bookmark changes, bucketed search and filter activity, pronunciation playback, opening the Android share chooser, name-submission status, reset or logout completion, and app decisions around ads and Google Play’s in-app review flow. These custom Analytics events are designed not to include raw names, meanings, profile fields, bookmark contents, search text, selected origins or religions, shared content, URLs or a Gilliy-created persistent user identifier.

Google services also collect information automatically for analytics, crash reporting, performance monitoring, remote configuration, app integrity and advertising. Depending on the service and configuration, this may include app interactions, diagnostic events, device and operating-system information, app or installation identifiers, network and performance data, approximate location derived from an IP address, advertising identifiers and ad interactions. Crash diagnostics are separate from the custom Analytics event contract and may include contextual values recorded by the app, such as a submitted name, profile first name, filter data, network URL or exception text.

The production Gilliy and Namly websites use a separate Firebase web application and Google Analytics property from the Android app. They may process page visits, browser and device information, performance and network timing, approximate location derived from an IP address, cookies or similar local storage, and advertising interactions through Firebase Analytics, Firebase Performance Monitoring, Google AdSense and embedded services.

4. When collection begins and available controls

In the current Android release, Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, Performance Monitoring and Google Mobile Ads may initialize automatically when the app runs. The production website may also initialize Firebase Analytics, Firebase Performance Monitoring and Google AdSense when a page loads. Namly does not currently provide one Gilliy-managed privacy control that disables all of these services before they initialize.

Google, your device or your account may provide advertising, identifier, cookie or privacy controls, and the services available to you can vary by region. Changing those controls may not delete information already processed. You can also stop using Namly and contact us using the details below. Gilliy is reviewing additional consent and privacy-choice controls; this policy describes the current behavior and does not claim that a future control is already available.

5. How we use information

• Provide and personalize Namly’s features.
• Save your choices and maintain the name catalog.
• Calculate aggregate popularity and trending signals.
• Diagnose crashes, monitor performance and protect the service from abuse.
• Display, measure and maintain advertising.
• Respond to feedback and comply with applicable legal obligations.

6. Service providers and external services

Namly uses Google Analytics for Firebase, Crashlytics, Performance Monitoring, Remote Config, Firebase Installations and Sessions, Cloud Functions, Firestore, Cloud Storage, App Check, Google Play services, Play Integrity, Google AdMob and Google AdSense. Links to app stores, social networks, email apps and other websites take you to services controlled by their respective providers. Their privacy practices apply after you leave Namly.

7. Advertising

Namly displays ads in the Android app and may display ads on the website. Google may collect or share an IP address, product interactions, diagnostic information, advertising or app-set identifiers, and related device or account information for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention. Google may serve personalized, non-personalized, limited or technical ads based on available consent signals, your region, and device or account settings. You can manage certain advertising settings through your device or Google account.

8. Storage, backup and retention

Profile information, bookmarks and preferences are stored locally until you reset the app, clear its data or uninstall it. Your operating system may include eligible app data in device transfer or cloud backup, subject to your platform and account settings.

Submitted names may remain in Namly’s catalog as generic name information, and aggregate trending inputs may be retained to maintain popularity signals. Diagnostics, analytics and advertising data follow the applicable provider settings and retention practices. We may retain correspondence as needed to respond, keep appropriate records or meet legal obligations.

9. Your choices and requests

Namly’s Reset and Logout option clears the app’s local profile, bookmarks, history, settings and downloaded app files. Uninstalling the app also removes local app data, subject to any platform backup.

Resetting or uninstalling Namly does not automatically delete information already transmitted to Gilliy, Firebase, Google advertising services or another service provider. Some analytics or diagnostic information is associated with an app installation or pseudonymous identifier rather than a Namly account, which may limit Gilliy’s ability to locate it from a name or email address.

You may ask us to access, correct or delete information associated with you by emailing namly@gilliy.com. Because a submitted baby name can be generic and is not tied to a Namly account, we may not always be able to identify which catalog submission came from a particular person. We may request reasonable information to verify and process a request and will explain when requested information cannot reasonably be identified or deleted.

10. Children’s privacy

If you are not old enough to consent to data processing under the law where you live, use Namly only with the involvement and permission of a parent or legal guardian. Parents or guardians who believe a child provided personal information without appropriate permission should contact us so we can review the request and delete identifiable information where required.

11. Security and international processing

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures intended to protect information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Gilliy and its providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live, subject to applicable safeguards and provider terms.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when Namly, its providers or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top identifies the latest revision. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or through another appropriate channel.

Terms of Use

1. Acceptance and eligibility

By using Namly, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the service. You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply where you live. A parent or legal guardian must supervise use by anyone who cannot legally agree to these terms.

2. Informational purpose

Namly is a discovery tool. Name meanings, origins, pronunciations, popularity and gender associations can vary by language, culture and source. Verify important information with additional reliable sources before making a naming decision.

3. Acceptable use

You may use Namly for personal, lawful purposes. You must not interfere with the service, attempt unauthorized access, misuse automated systems, submit unlawful or harmful material, impersonate another person, or infringe intellectual-property or privacy rights.

4. Contributions

You are responsible for names, meanings, origins, feedback and other material you submit. You confirm that you have the right to submit it. You give Gilliy a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to review, store, edit, reproduce and use the contribution to operate and improve Namly and its name catalog. Gilliy may accept, reject, correct or remove a contribution.

5. Gilliy’s rights

Namly, its design, software and original content belong to Gilliy or its licensors and are protected by applicable laws. These terms do not transfer ownership to you or permit you to copy, resell or create a competing service from protected parts of Namly.

6. Advertising and third-party services

Namly may display advertising and link to third-party services. Gilliy does not control those services and is not responsible for their content, availability or practices. Your use of a third-party service is governed by that provider’s terms.

7. Availability and termination

We may update, suspend or discontinue features and may restrict access when reasonably necessary to protect Namly, its users or Gilliy, or to comply with law. You may stop using Namly at any time and can clear local app data through the app or your device settings.

8. Disclaimers

To the extent permitted by law, Namly is provided “as is” and “as available.” Gilliy does not promise that the service will always be available, error-free or complete, or that every name entry will be accurate for every culture or context.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Gilliy is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss arising from your use of Namly. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Namly changes. The effective date at the top identifies the latest version. Continuing to use Namly after revised terms take effect means you accept the revised terms.
